The "Best Project of Moscow Region" competition, launched by the Committee for Architecture and Urban Planning of Moscow Oblast, has for the third consecutive year served as a leading platform for recognizing outstanding achievements in architecture and urban development. In 2025, the competition introduced a new category "Realization", dedicated to completed and fully operational projects that have made a significant contribution to the region’s development.
The winner in the non-residential buildings category is the Mayak Adaptation Center for Deafblind Children in Sergiev Posad — a unique example of inclusive architecture designed around the complex needs of children with combined vision and hearing impairments. Notably, this same project previously received the competition’s top honor in the "Projects" section.
"Mayak" functions as an urban simulator, where every spatial detail is purposefully crafted to foster social adaptation and independence among its users. The architectural solution incorporates diverse circulation routes, multisensory navigation (visual, tactile, and auditory cues), and specialized zones tailored to various types of disabilities—including hearing loss, visual impairment, and mobility limitations. Tactile flooring, clear color-coded zoning, and thoughtfully designed ergonomics ensure the center is safe, intuitive, and fully accessible to all.
