Open presentations of projects developed by participants and curators of the workshops at the anniversary X "Open City" Festival took place on November 13 in the Ruina wing of the A.V. Shchusev Museum of Architecture.
ATRIUM's portfolio includes numerous contemporary bridge projects, and for the workshop within the "Open City" Festival, the curators (Anton Nadtochii, Vera Butko, Sergey Nadtochiy) chose the theme Bridges of the Future.
Since 2016, ATRIUM has participated annually in the festival dedicated to architectural and urban planning education and career development, initiated by Moscow's Chief Architect Sergey Kuznetsov — and once even served as the festival's curator. The central aim of the 2025 workshop was to reframe the bridge not merely as a utilitarian structure, but as a flexible, multi-layered, and culturally significant typology capable of shaping new horizons for the urban environment:
We chose the theme of bridges because, in our view, they represent a uniquely distinctive, not only engineering but fundamentally new architectural typology. We observe how bridges are increasingly becoming symbols of cities, recreational spaces, and functionally rich objects that integrate diverse uses. This is precisely why bridge design has become one of the most important architectural challenges of our time,
— noted workshop curator Anton Nadtochii.
Working alongside a team of students, we analyzed over 30 bridge examples from around the world and developed an architectural solution matrix that enabled us to conceive three unique bridge designs for specific sites in Moscow, intended for Nagatino, Moscow City, and the Yauza River. Students developed a distinct conceptual vision for each location: treating each bridge not only as an architectural object but also as a spatial statement about the city's future.
