Svoboda quarter in the Symbol residential complex
The buildings of the "Sincerity" block in Symbol Residential Complex are located on a part of the former "Serp & Molot" plant site within the Third Ring Road. The new neighbourhood with its modern architecture differs from all the development around it, but with its infrastructure, services and public spaces, it develops the entire Lefortovo neighbourhood and presents a new quality of environment for its residents.
read-about-projectThe new buildings are located closer to the historical centre of Moscow and as a result have a lower number of storeys, from 6 to 22. Their architecture adopts the style of the first part of the complex, where ATRIUM designed nine residential buildings, a school and a kindergarten. The Green River Park, also designed by the studio, continues here. However, the new concept was based on the idea of making the banks of the Green River different, just like a real river in nature, one shallow and one steep, and to translate this approach to the architecture.
On the southern, darker bank, the development is envisaged to be more horizontal, with buildings elevated on their feet. The houses consist of sections offset against each other. This gives the neighbourhood the feeling of a dense low-rise development, like in European cities. The buildings are also characterised by a unique pattern on the façade - in pastel, black and white colours.
On the opposite, northern bank, there are tall and light vertical towers with sun terraces set on a dark, four-storey brick stylobate. The verticality of the houses is also emphasised by the proportions of the pattern on the façade. It is on this side that the city villas - multi-level flats with terraces - are created on the ground floors. All of these flats have a view of the Green River. A number of complex geometrically designed kindergartens are also provided on the ground floors of the buildings on the Sunshine River.
The multi-level development on both sides of the "river" is complemented by the complex topography of the public spaces: hills, amphitheatres, terraces and playgrounds are created there.
The two "banks" of the river form a coherent environment for the quarter. And the crystal-shaped building within it breaks this integrity and creates a new accent. This light, gallery-like house has large terraced flats, four on each floor.
The concept of the different riverbanks is also subordinate to the interiors. The interiors of the buildings on the south bank are predominantly in dark colours, while those on the north bank are in lighter shades. In addition, all of the landscape lines of the 'river' seem to flow into the interior spaces of the houses and envelop the buildings from the outside. Thus, in the new part of the Symbol housing estate, all the elements of architecture, landscape and interior design continuously interact with each other.
