Atomic Energy Pavilion on VDNH
According to the terms of the competition held by Rosatom, the Atomic Energy Pavilion was supposed to be built on the site of the former Pavilion No. 19 on the territory of VDNKh – between the Belarus and Gas Industry pavilions, in close proximity to such popular places as the Cosmos pavilion, the Stone Flower fountain and a branch of the Polytechnic Museum.

The new pavilion was to become not just a relevant exhibition space demonstrating innovations and achievements of the modern nuclear industry, not just a repository of monuments and documents, but a communication platform where Rosatom would conduct an ongoing dialogue with the audience.
In response to this challenge, the architects proposed a symbolic building, the plan of which was based on the most ancient and simple figures - the Circle and the Square. The horizontal space twists vertically, organizing a dynamic internal form of the pavilion from top to bottom around the courtyard square. When approaching, the building invites the visitor inside, "bending" the eastern corner upwards: the 12-meter-high all-glass structure arranged here - one of the memorable features of the pavilion - allows you to see what is happening inside. It is as if a person is already in the building - in the "energy pipe" leading him to the entrance.
Another "highlight" of the pavilion is the ball. It symbolizes both micro- and macromatter - the Earth and the Atom. The sphere compensates for the static nature of its form with its internal filling (Neuromatrix halls and the Atom hall) and the interactivity of the outer shell, which is intended to become a huge event screen. The entire mass of the pavilion seems to be set in motion, designed to give the visitor a feeling of powerful energy action, where each part is connected to the other into a single whole.
The maximum transparency of the building symbolizes the openness of the industry, which is especially valuable for the customer in this project. The open spaces of the upper level are given over to a temporary exhibition and a reading garden. Nearby there is a panoramic cinema-lecture hall, creative laboratories and a scientific library. The first level contains the entrance area, a souvenir shop, a children's center, a food court, and an office block in the southern part of the pavilion. On the lower levels along the outer walls there is a parking lot, technical rooms and the main exhibition halls of the pavilion with balconies and viewing platforms. Inside, they form an atrium space illuminating the inner courtyard-square - it is proposed to place the largest exhibits on it.
