There is a new ambitious project of innovative town on the edge of Moscow called “Skolkovo” (Russian version of Silicone valley). It was presented in Russian pavilion during the Venice architectural biennale 2012. The project is conducted by Skolkovo foundation and in the last winter they announced architectural competition for different dwelling typologies in techno park district of the town. It should be for rent by scientists and so on. No resident can stay in the town more than 5 years.

We chose to design townhouses, as we had not a lot experience in it, so it was interesting and educative for us. What is interesting, these townhouses should be double decked, one with two stories on another. After first stage of competition Jean Pistr the author of master plan for district defined a small round block for us. But it was said that there should not be only dwelling but also some public facilities.
We decided to organize all townhouses around inner courtyard. So there is U-shaped two-storey chain of them, some “towers” with three blocked townhouses on it, and two more towers which start from the ground level. As the block is round we made the outline of our towers curved. But in fact the external walls are regular, and loggias are of different curved shapes. Finish in wooden vertical planks helps to accent this near round shape.
Public facilities are placed in the center of courtyard under common roof, which imitates hill. Also this roof helps to hide parking places. So dwellers can get to the hill from first floor without crossing automobile ways.
